For Canadian nationals entering the US in TN status, their only contact with a government official is at the port of entry since they are visa exempt. We have been able to obtain a copy of the checklist/instructions which are given to each officer at every port of entry. This is helpful since you can see what the officer wants to see in order to grant the TN admission.
Note that some of the requirements have been known for some such as the need to refer to the position by the regulatory list, called the 1603 appendix, even if that means only a parenthetical title attached to the company’s normal title. Also, it is usually prudent to request the full three years of status since additional time may be needed even if the planned transfer is only for one year.
